Burr Oak Woods Nature Center

This nature center has 5 unique hiking trails that you may choose from. Hands-on exhibits for children are located on the trails along with wildlife from the area and woodlands. Enjoy the limestone outcrops and listen for a barred owl call as you hike along these beautiful trails.

George Owens Nature Park

Location: 1601 S Speck Rd., Independence, MO

Price: FREE

This park is host to a fishing dock and trails, including a “storybook” trail that you or your child may read from a giant children’s book as you walk the path. There are also two lakes and very peaceful scenery for a day outing with the family. Take some time out this summer to enjoy peace and quiet in the city for just a little while.

Ernie Miller Nature Center

Location: 909 N Hwy. 7, Olathe, KS

This nature center is home to many animals native to the Kansas area, hiking trails and educational programs. Before going on a hike here, go to their website and print out a check list for native birds and flowers that you can look for during your time there. This would be a fun and educational day for you and your family.

Parkville Nature Sanctuary

Location: 12th St . & Hwy. 9, Parkville, MO

This nature sanctuary has a few trails to choose from depending on the difficulty that you are in search of. Have fun hiking on the Blue Bird trail or try your hiking on the White Tail Trail. Birds, flowers and fun will all be found at this preserve; get the family out and enjoy the scenic views to be found in this area of the country.

Kemper Outdoor Education Center

Location: 8201 Jasper Bell, Blue Springs, MO

This center is host to reptile displays, rock and fossil displays and mounted wildlife. There are nature trails and butterfly and water gardens to be found and admired. The trails will show you wetland, woodland, prairie and cactus glade.

Kemper Outdoor Education center is a beautiful and peaceful getaway from the city noise and hustle. Enjoy the setting and unwind from your work week here with your family or go to unwind by yourself for a little while.
