A while back, Mark posted this review of the utterly brilliant young adult novel, GONE. I agreed with every word – in fact, I’d go so far as to say that GONE is one of the best books I’ve ever read. When the book was released, the publisher, Egmont, made it available to read online [...]

Bearsharktopus or Berk?
A flurry of concern in the caves today, at the news (via Boing Boing) that Bernard managed to blunder out of the wrong lake at the wrong time and got himself caught on camera. Honestly. With buffoons like Bernard about, it’s amazing that sightings of monsters by humans occur as infrequently as they do.
Happy Birthday, H.G. Wells!
Following on from David’s pic below, here’s another coincidentally facial-hair-related post… ;p Today is the birthday of a truly amazing author, H.G. Wells. Not only did he sport a fantastic moustache, he also wrote some of the most thrilling books I’ve ever read. Did you like Steven Spielberg’s 2005 film version of The War of [...]
Pre-Hysterical Fun!
As I’m sure you’d expect, I read a lot of children’s books (in fact, whatever there is on the monsters’ shelves) – and it’s about time I paid homage to two of the best series out there: Astrosaurs and Astrosaurs Academy by Steve Cole. The initial Astrosaurs series takes the simple idea of dinosaurs in [...]
Five of my Favourite Books Ever
Awesome independent booksellers The Big Green Bookshop are currently running a rather wonderful poll. What (they ask) are your five favourite books of all time? Anyone who answers has the chance to win a brilliant prize: twenty books of their choice from whatever ends up in the Big Green Top Fifty when the results are [...]
Happy Roald Dahl Day!
13th September is Roald Dahl Day and, to celebrate, here I am discussing my favourite book from the great man… I had to sneak out of the cave to the triffid garden to record this, so I hope you appreciate the effort… *Several eagle-eared viewers may have spotted my, er… deliberate mistake in saying that [...]
Bludgeoned By Brilliance
There’s a book by Roald Dahl that sometimes gets underrated or overlooked these days: Tales of the Unexpected. It’s hard to say what’s my favourite thing Dahl wrote – my opinion changes all the time! – but right now it just might be a story from that book, called Lamb to the Slaughter. Lamb to [...]

Do your classroom or library walls suffer from blandness and boring areas? Do you yearn for something to look at other than that tattered old picture of Duran Duran? Then panic no more – the Poster Boys are here… At Write2Excite – www.write2excite.co.uk – you can claim your FREE set of four posters, featuring best-selling [...]
The Darksmith Legacy
Anyone who knows me will be able to tell you that I’m a big Doctor Who fan (although obsessive geek might be closer to the truth!) One of the fantastic things about the Who universe (Whoniverse?) is that stories aren’t limited to the TV series. There are radio plays, activity albums, comics, magazines, audio downloads [...]
Scream Street Fan Art
I found this superb piece of Scream Street fan art online over the weekend: Luke and the chihuahua from Fang of the Vampire, created by an artist who goes by the name of Marticus Productions: I think it is FANTASTIC, and I look forward to seeing more! You can see the original posting here: http://marticusproductions.deviantart.com/art/Tommy-Donbavands-SCREAM-STREET-136015157
