More of a villain than a monster but…

I was lucky enough to launch Wirral Authority’s Summer Reading Challenge last Friday. The wonderful librarian there put me back in touch with some books I’d probably taken out back in the 70s!

“Uncle” was an irreverent series about a benign but hugely rich elephant who lived in a massive castle called Homeward. It was so big that Uncle hadn’t explored all of it! Anyway, Uncle’s nemesis was a man called Beaver Hateman, a proper thug with no respect for the denizens of Homeward.

One of his henchmen was a little chap called Hitmouse. He carried a hating book that he scribbled furiously in and if he really took exception to you, he stuck skewers into you! So let’s hear it for Hitmouse! All drawn by the wonderful Quentin Blake! Happy Days!
You can find out more about Uncle here.
