King Gobbledegook

Now I’m very critical when it comes to pretty much anything I produce. There is always something I wish I had done better. Always. But sometimes I get close to where I was heading (in my mind), when I began the work. This illustration shows King Gobbledegook from the book The Tale of Jack Frost. Here is the moment that Jack Frost and the Goblin come face to face for the first time.I remember drawing and painting this image under enormous pressure from an impending deadline – no change there then – but it wasn’t until I set out the entire artwork on the floor at the end of the project – something I like to do in order to get an better feel of the thing as a whole – that I took a moment and thought, yeah, this one is getting there.

I won’t crow too much because I’ve just noticed something I don’t like and it’s really starting to bug me…
