Even seasoned writers like to learn from each other, which is why I have enjoyed Tommy Donbavand’s excellent HOW TO PROMOTE YOUR BOOKS ONLINE posts. If you are a published writer you should check them out!
During events one question I am often asked is how people can become writers. That’s a difficult question as writers write so many different things other than books:
Copywriting – from magazine articles though to zippy lines for selling cat food.
Journalism – newspapers, magazines, online stories and journalism for both radio and TV
Radio – dramas, plays, factual shows…
TV and films - everything you watch starts with the written word – including factual shows, news broadcasts, documentaries and even reality shows
Computer Games – Again, every game needs writers – from instruction manuals through to stories and scripts for the games themselves.
But perhaps the simplest way to practise writing and get yourself out there is BLOGGING. You can blog about anything. I’ve just blogged about this! Some people even blog their creative writing. A brilliant example of this was given to me by a teacher during my recent tour of Scotland. One of his pupils, Andrew Small, has been using his blog just to exercise his creative muscles – and I must say, I think he’s rather good!
Check out Andrew Small’s Blogspot for inspiration on how to get your creative writing out there!
