Some time ago, a year or more, I posted this strip sequence – if you can call it that. Nothing more than a silly moment played out between a couple of characters I like to draw every now and again. Well, it occurred to me that I do re-visit these visual ideas often, not just the characters. I suppose it’s the drawing equivalent to chanting. Just keep drawing the same things and see what develops. Well, I’ll be honest, I do that often and, in the spirit of a mantra I don’t think about it too much, I just enjoy the process of the drawing. Very tactile, drawing. Nice. (None of your waco-tablet-thingy nonsense here).

Anyway, I drew this a few months back. It has no meaning, no sequence in which to read it, at least I don’t think it does. My only thought was to draw some panels and fill them in. So I went back to my tried and tested characters and um…filled them in. Why post them here? Not sure really, other than to add this to my list of things-I-do-to-generate-ideas. It’s fun and it just may lead to something.

All the above came to mind when I finished drawing this for a friend yesterday. I didn’t think too much, picked up a pen and out this came. What goes around comes around. And one day…some if it just might end up in a story.

PS Clear as mud? Now you know how difficult it is to answer the question “Where do you get your ideas?

David, These are really brilliant! You can almost hear a soundtrack running in background of the first illustration!

Puts me in mind of the fabulous animation The Cat Came Back a little.

I am so envious/in awe of you lucky peeps who can draw/paint/illustrate so beautifully.

Thanks for your comments here. I have a few more somewhere, I’ll try and dig them out and post a couple more soon.
