Ali recently wrote about Barry’s intense and understandable dislike of clowns, [noun: a buffoon or jester who entertains by jokes, antics, and tricks in a circus, play, or other presentation], so I thought I’d post another picture of one. I’m helpful like that. We can regard it as aversion therapy, [noun: any technique of behaviour modification that uses unpleasant stimuli in a controlled fashion to alter behaviour in a therapeutic way].
So anyway, this chap in the picture is from a video called ‘Clown Torture’, by the brilliant American artist Bruce Nauman. I wrote an earnest essay about it when I was studying art, [euphemism: training to be a spy], and I won’t burden you with the details but as a rough idea the clowns are trapped in tiny cells, screaming and yelling and doing pointless tasks, while we watch. I’m Bruce Nauman’s biggest fan, [noun: a machine using an electric motor to rotate thin, rigid vanes in order to move air, as for cooling OR a collapsible, usually wedge-shaped device made of a light material such as silk, paper] …er…and I also enjoyed this comment on youtube from a Mr/Ms/Mrs/Miss [delete box as necessary] MaestroFire:
‘I saw this in Berlin when i was there with school. A girl from my class is afaid of them and cried, she says that she still have nightmares of them. Bruce Nauman should find a normal job.’
