A new book called ‘Cinema Futura’ has just been released by PS Publishing. Edited by acclaimed author Mark Morris it is a collection of essays by horror, thriller and sci-fi writers. Each writer picked their favourite sci-fi film and was given about 2,000 words to tell the world why they loved that particular movie. Anyhoo, I’m one of the lucky contributors, and my personal favourite is a brilliant British sci-fi classic called VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED.
‘Village’ is an adaptation of a creepy book called ‘The Midwich Cuckoos’ (Midwich is the name of the village… cuckoos lay their eggs in other birds’ nests…), written by the legendary John Wyndham. In my essay I describe why I love the movie so much and why I believe it still has the power to terrify audiences 50 years after its release. After Star Wars and ET, this was my first proper dark sci-fi movie, a grim little gem that led me into shadowy news worlds…
