Today is World Book Day! Hurray!
And I’m not running any events! Boo!
I was supposed to be at Coleshill Heath School yesterday, Alcott Hall School today and Starbank Primary School tomorrow – but I’ve had to postpone all three visits because I’ve got a throat infection. Yes, yours truly is completely mute. I can’t even whisper. And my throat hurts. A lot.
Thanks for the sympathy.
Still, I’ve got a couple of (silent) treats up my sleeve for today – the first being a pdf file of spooktacular Scream Street activities that you can download from the World Book Day website here: http://www.worldbookday.com/assets_cm/files/pdf/10webA1P_Vampire_Activity_Sheets.pdf
You should also find some fun Scream Street information in your school’s World Book Day pack.
Have a great day!

I feel your pain, Tommy. I also had to cancel two events this week – and shrink one (Elson School) to just a very gentle one hour (and get driven there and have my props case carried for me…) because of a nasty virus which made me feel like a mouldy wet rag.
For an author, cancelling a school event is like ripping out their own innards with a rusty fork. We HATE it. Tommy. There’s no need to take it so hard. TOMMY! STOP RIPPING OUT YOUR INNARDS WITH A RUSTY FORK! STOP IT NOW!

There’s just no pleasing you, these days…

I don’t know how many times I have to tell you. I don’t WANT a bit of your innards. Put ‘em away.

sorry you weren’t well, Tommy…I had fun at St. Michael’s and St Clement’s schools on Thurs and Fri here in Jersey. And I unveiled my Book Day poem for the first time to the public. I love Book Day – the ONLY day in the year when it is legal for you to read!
Here’s the poem:
Books are lovely, books are good,
Books are heavy if made from wood.
Books can be funny, books can be sad,
Books can be borrowed, books can be bad.
Books can be all about a place
Books can show you how to make up your face.
Books are hardbacks, and paperbacks too.
Books can teach you to play the kazoo.
Books can teach you how to read,
Books can show you how to lead.
Books are colourful, books are dull,
I once had one stolen by a jealous seagull.
It was all about food – pancakes and things.
This great big bird dived down with its wings.
It pecked at the pages and it squawked and it shrieked,
I jumped up and down, I tell you, I freaked!
But as it disappeared into the wide blue yonder,
I was left with this massive huge problem to ponder:
How would I explain to my mate Jamie Le Cepe,
That a greedy great gull had nicked his book to make crepes?
