This is a question for not just the published writers (both trapped in here and visiting the blog), but for anyone reading who harbours any desire to become a writer.
What’s your ultimate writing ambition? If you could pick one writing ‘job’ you could have, what would it be? Perhaps it’d be something as simple as having a letter published in your favourite magazine. Maybe you’d dearly love to write a blockbuster sci-fi movie, or the next James Bond film. Leave a comment, letting us know what you’d like to write – preferably giving more detail than “a book”.
I’ll start. No laughing, but my ultimate writing ambition (at the moment) would be to write an issue of The Incredible Hulk comic. I have this great idea for a single-issue standalone story, which I think explores both the human side of the hulk (Puny Banner) and his big green rampaging monster side. Now all I need is Marvel comics to get in touch, and I’ll be a very happy man indeed!
Right, who’s next?

I would love to write an episode of Dr Who. Don’t have any big ideas for the character, but just love the freedom of the concept: a man who can change his face travels through all of space and time in a magic blue box. (Also, I’m a massive fan of the show and have been for years.)

Both fine and noble ambitions. I’d also like to write a Doctor Who, Matt, although I think Tommy Donbavand would like it more.
And no harm in setting your sights high, Tam!

It’s the monsters, Tam. They’re everywhere.
EVERYWHERE!

I was going to say Doctor Who, but with David Tennant as the Doctor but looks like I’m just jumping on the bandwagon.
So – something else??
Heroes maybe – I think they’ve lost direction but I thoroughly enjoyed the first series.
But ultimately, get a book published and it be a success.

I’d like to write an action book for teenage girls – not about vampires (!) but with a strong heroine and one that doesn’t assume all girls want to read about is lurrrrve or shopping but are just as adrenalin driven at times as the boys.

That’d be good, Lib (you don’t mind if I call you Lib, do you…?).
I made a point of having a strong female character in Invisible Fiends. If anything, she’s stronger than the lead character – totally kick-ass, and not afraid of anything.

Two things:
1. to see someone reading one of my books on the High Barnet branch of the Northern Line.
2. to win an Oscar

To have written a whole shelf of books. And to know that people all over the world could come to that shelf (or digital equivalent) in a bookshop or library, pick any one of them out, and be able to say to themselves ‘I know this is going to be good’.
Yikes. I don’t ask for much, do I?

i would to have my own book out, but it would be nice if it had illustrations in it it would be in the style of manga in it (hopefully done by myself) so it would appeal to a bigger market other than book readers. also i find theres not enough light novels on the market
and dont worry sam, i think that every time i re-read TIM, defender of the earth

Ooh – yes! Doctor Who for me, please!
I’d also love to write more TV in general. I’ve written a few episodes of a CBBC show called Planet Cook, but I’d love to spend some time as a staff writer on a series and – of course – come up with a couple of my own.
