SCREAM!!!

scream-streetWith garlic in hand and a gun full of silver bullets, I headed down SCREAM STREET, ready for anything – or so I thought…

What I wasn’t prepared for was a superbly funny story, that had me windmilling through the pages as I followed Luke Watson on his spooky adventure. The jokes made me snigger-out-loud, resulting in odd looks from other people on the train – but I didn’t care, Scream Street had me hooked.

Luke is a boy with a slight problem – he’s a werewolf. After chasing the neighbourhood Chihuahua (and let’s face it, who doesn’t?), Luke and his family are forcibly relocated to Scream Street – a town stuck in permanent night and with no apparent way out.

Luke befriends his neighbours – a vampire and a mummy – and together they set out to find a way out of Scream Street, against the wishes of their cigar-chomping landlord: Sir Otto Sneer.

The writing is as sharp as a vampire’s fang. As a die-hard fan of Tim Burton’s “Nightmare Before Christmas” I revelled in the vivid world Tommy Donbavand created. Vampires with secrets, farting goblins and faceless Movers are both scary and captivating. The book is laced with wonderful illustrations and it even has a free bookmark and collector’s cards – how much more awesome can it get?

I’m now going to find Tommy in the caves and beat a copy of BLOOD OF THE WITCH from him! I advise you to do the same… or head to your nearest bookstore fast to grab your guide to surviving Scream Street…

HA! Feel smug because I read it FIRST! And it is brilliant and had me gurgling out loud for as long as I could wrestle it off my son, Alex has read the first four and is gagging for the next ones (as far as I understand it form the slightly damp letters from home). And he is a very good judge of books, as you know, Andy.

I particularly liked zombies Doug and Turf…

I’m about half way through so don’t you dare tell me what happens! I’m loving. It appears Tommy is a born entertainer in many fields!

Wow! What can I say! Thanks to Andy for the great review (glad you enjoyed the book) and to Mark and Ali for their kind comments.

I’ve now got ‘net access in the deeper, darker cave the monsters have moved me to, so I’ll be posting again soon.

    Tommy
